The Moment I Had A Mommy Tantrum

Honestly, raising a fivenager, I have developed a resistance, or you would call ‘tuning out’ of my daughter’s frequent whining episodes and periodic temper tantrums. Then one day, I was driving and thinking about parenting and other things, feeling myself getting worked up with heavy emotions, my mind going a mile a minute, and it hit me. I realized I was having a mommy tantrum, and I’ve probably been having them for years. (more…)

30 Instagram Profiles For Single Moms To Follow Today

To kick off my journey To 30 Blog Series, I would like to share some of my favorite Instagram profiles and brands with you. I will admit I’m such a millennial mom! So, social media has become a large part of my life over the last 20 years.

My first social profile was BlackPlanet at the young tender age of 10. Yes, I was trying to be grown… just sneaky. I think this was my first profile picture. LOL

As much as I get so upset with some of the stuff I see on social media, there is always some good shining through it. I have grown to like Facebook and Instagram, as I had to go cold turkey on Snapchat (it was too distracting). But Instagram has a special place in my heart.

Instagram

I love Instagram because of the constant flow of beautiful, lively images. Whether it’s advice or just postings of family outings, it is pleasing to the eye. I even invested in a new phone, so my Instagram profile could have higher-quality images.

Instagram was created to provide a simple, fun, and creative way to edit and share pictures, videos, and messages with your family & friends. It has grown to be so much more, especially as the pandemic has forced everything to be online.

Social Media Statistics

In a study by Edison Research in 2019, research confirmed that 81% of moms spend significant time on social media. With most moms on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram come in a strong 2nd and 3rd.

Did you know that moms spend an average of 17 hours a week scrolling social media feeds. That’s crazy!

Data from Weber Shandwick, shared that millennial moms are the biggest culprits  because of:

  • Millennial Moms have more social network accounts and spend more time on their social networks than moms overall. Have 3.4 social media accounts, on average.
  • Spend an average of 17.4 hours per week with their social networks, 2 hours more than they spend watching TV.
  • Millennial moms also have a higher level of influence.

Profile Connection

So why not use your social platforms to improve your mindset, help you become a better mother, and empower you to be the woman you were always created to be. I have transformed my social media sites and feeds, especially my Instagram profile. They all focus on reminding me to focus on my spiritual life, improve relationships, and encourage me to pursue my passion in entrepreneurship.

Below I share a list of the 30 Instagram profiles that I adore personally for different reasons. I pray through your new found following, your feed will encourage you, uplift you, and bring out the best in you.

5 Amazing Benefits Of Being A Single Mom

I know the good old christian way is all about marriage and the original design of God’s family. And don’t get me wrong that still holds true and I am believing God to redeem my situation. However, I can’t deny the benefits of being a single mom.

There are some aspects of single parenting that I do not enjoy. But I was taught to be content no matter the situation (Phillipians 4:11). And to count my blessings, no matter what season I’m in. Therefore, I had to begin to dig deep and find the perks to being a single mom.

The World’s View

Single Mothers make up approximately 15 million of our population as head of household. The way of life has shockingly become the “norm”. See more facts below according to Very Well Family:

  • Approximately 80.4 percent of custodial parents are mothers.
  • Single mothers deal with insecurities as it relates to not having enough food, money, and finances to afford child care.
  • Most single mothers are not single from outset, most are divorced, separated, or widowed. Only 40% are never married.

Although most stats are consistent, research focuses on the negatives of being a single mother. What single mothers need is a change of perspective, not a reminder. We need to hear about the positives of being a single mom. There is always talk about the lack of financial, emotional, and intellectual stability and its effects on children growing up in a “broken” home. What research isn’t reporting that more and more single mothers are well-educated and are leading our nation in multiple industries. Here’s some more facts:

  • 29.2 percent of custodial single mothers and their children lived in poverty (just a small percentage is close to homelessness.)*
  • Financial limitations aside, more children with single mothers graduate from college than those that don’t  finish high school.*
  • 80% of single mothers are gainfully employed, 50% working full-time. Only approximately 20% unemployed.

Don’t you just love the media. I love this article about the Very Well Family , who spoke the truth about the stats of single motherhood.

Single Mothers in the Bible

bible study, character study, single mothers, widow, hagar, naomi, scripture

During my journey to understand my place in the church as a single mom, there were stories that encouraged me. These stories allowed me to see myself in the Word. I was truly able to understand what impact single mothers had on history and faith. Here are the two I focused on:

Hagar– Single mother in the time of Abraham and Sarah. Demanded to sleep with the boss’s husband to give him a child. Boss started to resent her because of her husband’s care for her and the child. Sarah had her child and sent Hagar away with her child alone and homeless. God took care of her though. (Gen. 16:1–16; 21:8–21)

Naomi– A widowed mother who lost her two sons and husband, which left her destitute. Despite her efforts, her daughter-in-law Ruth, she took under her wings. Naomi was in desperate need of healing from bitterness, grief, and loneliness,  but she decided to coach Ruth on Boaz. She was also able to see God moving in her life in the midst of her despair. (Found in the book of Ruth)

Despite the different perspectives, there is always a lesson, a blessing, or an opportunity for you. Below I share the 5 benefits of being a single mom from my own journey and how it has led me to finally be the woman I always desired to be.

5 Benefits of Being A Single Mom

single mom, benefits, singleness, positive, faith

  • Little to no drama concerning parenting, finances, or my choices.

One thing I’ve noticed in my 5 years that most slack I get is from my  parents.  However, it is small compared to the idea of living with another person and having to compromise and discuss everything. The only person to consult with is God on my decisions. Mostly, there are fewer people affected by my decisions.

  • I can have more time to explore myself and create a special bond with my child.

We already have so much on our plates. Adding a spouse to the equation may seem impossible to most. And yes, it is possible. I  do understand the freedom I have now to learn myself and create a unique bond with my child. Relationships are hard work. But the opportunity to know God, yourself, and your child should be the priorities in your singleness season.

  • Experiencing more strength, motivation, and determination.

This may not apply to everyone’s story. Prior to becoming a single mother, I would rely on other people to be strong and motivated for me. Once I become one, I found new strength, purpose, and appreciation for everything within me. I was able to see the abilities God gave me to meet the needs of my child. Even with most single moms struggling in this area, more and more are gaining clarity and confidence to move forward.

  • I am able to address what I need to with God without additional voices

You ever realize the closer someone is to you in proximity, the more you hear their voice. I’ve seen through my dating seasons since being a single mom the distracting nature of additional voices in your head. All the noise limits how well you can communicate with God and hear His instructions for you. Due to this, it’s important to make sure we prioritize our time with God for the proper healing. I definitely enjoy the small number of voices that have access to me during my redemption.

  • If I don’t feel like cooking, cleaning, or getting cute, so be it.

This is the main one for me. There is so much freedom in having your own space. Not having to accommodate another person’s needs and desires. In this season, I need freedom from other’s expectations of me so that I can be my most authentic self. One day I will be ready for a spouse to come into my world. But right now, I am enjoying my space to do whatever I feel outside of raising my child.

The Truth Behind The Benefits Of Being A Single Mom

There’s some benefits of being a single mom or parent. However, as long as you continue to let God guide your path, I encourage you not to become resistant to the possibility of love and marriage. Despite our normalized circumstances and unfavorable path of the bible, God still loves us.

Remember Jesus goes after the 1 instead of the 99 (Matthew 18:12-14). He has the desire to give you a future and a hope whether it’s with a husband or not (Jeremiah 29:11). Learn to live the life God has for you and be grateful.

How To Rediscover Yourself After Becoming A Single Mom

As you all know, becoming a mom can come with it’s fair share of challenges. Outside of the dirty diapers and toddler tantrums, we can find ourselves losing our identity in the mix. With Pinterest moms killing the game and happy social media moms posting their family trip pictures,  being a mom (whatever you identify with) can seem like an everlasting battle for self-confidence and esteem.
