10 Kitchen Gadgets For The Single Moms That Don’t Like To Cook

Spread the love

Did you see yourself in that title? I know I did. I despise cooking to the tenth degree. Coming home after a long day’s work, just to see that you have to cook dinner, clean, make sure homework is done, make time for quiet time with God, attend your small group, watch your favorite shows , check on family/friends, and prepare for the next day. Not going to happen! It’s time to get some kitchen gadgets that will make the most nonsense single mom look like a cooking pro.

Let me share something…

I did not learn to cook until I was in graduate school….Grad School…Yes I said GRAD SCHOOL!

Before then I would just rely on my mom for meals, eat out often, or attend events just for the grub. Don’t judge me!

I had no interest in learning how things were made even though I had a fond liking to eating, especially different cuisines. In grad school, we had to brainstorm wellness goals for the summer and chose to try to cook at least 2 meals a week in order to learn how to cook.

Cue the pinterest fails….

I had some good results but most were bad. I was annoyed by the wait time, the steps, and preparation time. As a result of the summer goal, I was able to make simple dinner ideas such as enchiladas, spaghettis, chicken casseroles, and etc.

All meals were both safe and edible might I add. However, I did not really develop a liking for cooking. But now as a mom, I have to cook because I have another human being relying on me for nutrition.

Cue the eye roll…

This is where my parenting has gone wrong because I have this firm disdain for cooking. It’s so bad that my child has a regular meal choice at our nearby McDonald’s, Chick Fil-A, Wendy’s, Popeyes, In & Out, and ….should I go on? Yikes!

Can you relate?

Cooking is a close second to household cleaning in my book of household management tasks that I despise.

However, when I came across my first air fryer, my life changed drastically. I was making dinner at home more and even planning meals before going to the grocery store.

Since then my kitchen countertop has been over-crowded with kitchen appliances, gadgets, and tools galore. This is why I want to share my 10 favorite kitchen gadgets that help make dinner time easier for me and more appetizing for my child. Hopefully, you can find something on this list that will transform your meal time at home.

Air Fryer

Okay…so if you don’t get anything else, definitely get an Air Fryer. This appliance has been a game changer in my home. For the chicken nugget lovin’, french fry eating child of mine with little to no patience, this has been a God sent.

Crockpot

Now the crock pot is an old-time favorite for Moms who are in no mood or have no time to make a meal. I remember my mom always putting some type of meat on before leaving for school and coming home to a sweet aroma and delicious dinner. The crock pot is a staple and you can find tons of resources on Pinterest for meal prepping with it.

Blender

I use the blender as an excuse to focus on my health, so I guess you can call it a healthy kitchen gadget. From protein shakes to smoothies, this blender comes in handy. For a child that does not want to engage with vegetables or a woman who wants to gain weight/muscle but not eat all the calories, a blender comes in handy for your family’s health/nutrition needs.

Electric Griddle

This is my Saturday morning go-to for my fried eggs and bacon, which my daughter loves. I found this cool waffle sandwich recipe on Pinterest that’s a staple for our weekend breakfast routine.

George Foreman

My go-to kitchen gadget for my burgers and variety patties. This little mini grill is perfect for a party of 2. You can cook more than burgers and it comes with cooking times that are reasonable.

And the kitchen gadgets for the single mom continues….

Instapot

I have not used this kitchen gadget yet. I have a feeling Santa has already purchased one and is planning on putting it under the Christmas tree (which I still need to put up). I’ve been hearing so many great things about cooking a full meal in just one, making the perfect rice, and even quick pasta cooking. Waiting on stove top boiling is torture.

Food processor

For the moms that like to chop, slice, and dip. I am a big fan of making dips such as guacamole and salsa. This tool has been amazing! I even made an orange puree to make orange ice cream popsicles for my daughter.

Waffle Maker

I honestly don’t like making pancakes as the skill to make them perfectly drives me nuts. However, my waffle maker has become a joy to have for our morning breakfast. There are different variations but the belgium (humongous) waffles are my favorite.

Egg Cooker

I eat too many eggs on a regular basis. I go back and forth on whether I am being just too lazy. Then I realize who cares. This is definitely on my wishlist this holiday season.

Toaster Oven

This kitchen gadget that I haven’t tried myself yet. But my friends rave about the toaster ovens. Especially if you’re a toast lover or bagel person, many people have told me that you can get the proper toasting needed compared to a traditional toaster. I have even seen others use this oven to reheat leftovers such as pizza slices.

Bonus:

Electric Tea Kettle

Ready to eat oatmeal right away and not have to wait for the whistle? This one’s for you. Love drinking tea and making your hot chocolate quickly? This would be a great investment. Are you sold on it yet? It’s portable and does not require heating up your stove.
