10 Bible Verses To Renew Your Confidence In Christ

Spread the love

This month, I had an opportunity to speak to a group of women at the National Single Moms Conference on the topic of growing in their confidence in Christ. It was an experience to remember! I wish I had more time to dive deep with the attendees because there are so many more scriptures to renew their confidence in Christ.

What I have learned through my studies that having confidence in Christ is just that… having complete trust in Christ.

The world likes to make us believe that our confidence should be contingent on what we accomplish, what we look like, how other’s feel about us and what we can do. Those are all lies from the enemy, trying to keep you in bondage through weaknesses, opinions of others, and obsession with performance.

What Does It Look Like To Have Your Confidence In Christ?

You confidence should always be rooted in Christ. What this means is that, who you are, what you do, and how you interact with others is all contingent on your understanding of who Christ is and what He did for you on the cross. Nothing more and nothing less.

Confidence is the pure, innate state of being that you believe and trust in someone or something ( in your case, Christ) that brings you certainty and assurance.

Putting your confidence in Christ is the only sure way to truly feel free within yourself to be all that God created you to be. Your confidence in Christ allows for you to show up in new situations and new environment as if you were meant to be there. Not that you deserved to be there or belong there, but because you are His and where He leads, you are meant to go according to His plan.

I am so grateful that I have come to the realization after years of struggling with my confidence that all  of it should of been focused on trusting God and not my own accomplishments and human power.

You may be feeling that you have had you confidence in the wrong place. Don’t beat yourself up for what you have done in the past. God forgives you, so please forgive yourself.

Now that you know where your confidence should lie, it is time to renew your confidence in Christ, not just for you but for those who depend on or are connected to you. Below I share 10 key bible verse to help renew your confidence in Christ today and everyday.

10 Bible Verses To Renew Your Confidence In Christ

“God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I could have stopped at the first 8 words. The fact that God knows you, loves you, and chooses you should be enough to make you feel sealed, secure, and ready to take this world by storm.

Rest in the fact that Holy Spirit is what makes you holy. In Jesus’ sacrifice and your willingness to do what He asked us all to do, brings you peace and space to just be. And that’s confidence in Christ!

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Okay! So I provided more than 10 but I thought these scriptures would be perfect to couple together as all three focuses on boldness and confidence.

Our boldness and our confident trust should be when we are in God’s presence, in need, guilt free, and feel no fear or hesitation to show up in the world as we were created to be long ago.

Boldness and Confidence are twin sisters that often get mistaken for each other but are a force to be reckoned with when together.

““But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Many people get confidence mixed up with a presentation of self or the behaviors we portray. However, confidence is really a state of being of being in complete trust with someone or something.

For our case, our complete trust in Christ secures blessings over us. This verse reminds us that we do have a choice in who we make our hope and confidence. Let’s not forfeit our blessed favor by making ourselves, our money, or anyone/anything else our confidence; Only the Lord.

“The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭14‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

One thing confidence is not is foolish. It’s the stewards of confidence that make it unwise. This scripture gives us wisdom to not be over-confident especially in self.

Wise individuals think things through, while fools move impulsively with no calculation of risk and is overly sure about doing the wrong or dangerous things. Don’t be a confident fool in the the things that does not serve your values and purpose.

“Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The new way mentioned here refers to our new covenant and lifestyle as followers of Christ. We are no longer under law but the grace and redemption of Christ on the cross.

It is in this new way of salvation and eternal life that allow us to be hopeful, full of trust, and be able to have speak and show up boldly despite the challenges and failures of our past. I am so grateful for the new way.

We no longer have to lead to death by way of the law but live by the spirit and minister to those who we are called to for God.

“Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭146‬:‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This is a big one single moms. Do not put your confidence in powerful people. Not even the ones who claim that they can destroy or make your life. Nor the people that sell you big dreams only to leave you stranded, abandoned, and abused.

The government, your pastor, your child’s father, your boss, and any other entity is not where your help comes from. Your help comes from the Lord where your confidence should be in your time of need.

I know it can be a hard peel to swallow because as single moms we can often find ourselves in need more than we like. Each time would should be trusting in the Lord to tell us what is needed or next to find a solution.

“Doesn’t your reverence for God give you confidence? Doesn’t your life of integrity give you hope?”
‭‭Job‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Us as Christian single moms often show up in the world timid, fearful, and confused. Yet in the midst of Jobs turmoil, his friend gave him a hard truth through questions.

Our confession and lifestyle focused on being disciples and followers of Christ should be our confidence. We technically shouldn’t need all the bells and whistles. Who we are, what we believe, and how we live should be  the very thing that makes us trust and know that we already have the victory or conquered any challenge that come our way.

“For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort, though I could have confidence in my own effort if anyone could. Indeed, if others have reason for confidence in their own efforts, I have even more!”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As much as the world like to portray single moms as inadequate and incapable, all of that is far from the truth. Many of us have degrees, started businesses, raised/raising amazing children.

Yet, we can not put our confidence in all that we have done in our own strength. We can not place all our trust in our own accomplishments or checked boxes. We must rely on the Lord and what he has done. Rely on the Spirit that lives within us, not our inner flesh which is variable.

“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Confidence in Christ should bring you joy. A pleasant hope that helps you wait patiently but also in expectation that God will answer your prayers.

There was many times I let anixety, fear, depression to distract me from the truth that God had me and covered me in every trouble. It’s time for you to experience every challenge with joy, every hardship with patience, and trust in the Lord.

“So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭35‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Lastly, never stop being confident and trusting in the Lord. Even when life kicks your butt, never lose hope, never throw away your God-given identity.

In the end, we will see why we had to remain steadfast and standing firm in who God is to us. Our Father gives good gifts and if we are promised a great reward, it’s more than we could ever think or imagine. So walk in confidence in Christ today!

All in all,

I did give you more than 10. Yet, I pray each verse ignites a fire and urge to action regarding your confidence.

There are many more verses related to trust and confidence, yet these 10 scriptures stuck out in away that incited understanding and practical actions to help govern your daily walk each day.

I pray your confidence in Christ journey is not a point in time but a lifelong journey with God.
