Trusting God As A Single Mom (6 Bible Verse To Help)

Spread the love

Ladies, I have wanted to write about this topic for a while. But now it seems more important than ever to touch on the subject of trusting God. With coming off of a year of crazy politics, our world on locked down, and the health of others jeopardized, there’s no time more critical than now to trust God with the future of your family, country, and this world.

I have struggled with trust a time or two. Even when I thought I wasn’t, I was. In my past relationships (mostly romantic), I experienced hurt that caused me to not trust people the same.

One Sunday, my pastor said, ” Your relationships around you should always reflect your vertical relationship.” My mind was sent into a frenzy. I say that because the hurt that I experienced from those close to me kept me from letting God receive my full trust.

What I thought was trust was just gullibility and masking my uncertainty with ” I see the good in others.” I was just being naive in my thinking, which is not the confident trust God referred to in the bible.

I will break it down further in the next section.

Learning to trust God’s way

My journey to trust has been a hard one. However, it all started to turn around for me when I finally got in the Word and fought out more about faith from the bible itself.

Trust:

*Confidence; a reliance or resting of the mind on the integrity, honesty, justice, friendship, or other sound principles of another person.

*To place confidence in; to rely on. We cannot trust those who have deceived us.

Confidence is not only about feeling capable of yourself. It’s about trusting yourself as well as trusting others including God.

Benefits of trusting God:

  • He will act on your behalf.
  • Keep you close to the truth and the right path.
  • He will help you fulfill his promises for you.
  • I will bring you joy.
  • He will keep you in perfect peace and comfort you.

All benefits listed above are things we desire as single moms. We’ve all became single moms in different ways, and we’ve seen people change for the worst right before our eyes. Experiencing this has caused us to doubt our choices, decisions, and who we could rely in the future.

Single Moms and Trusting God

As single moms, we’ve experienced people stereotyping our situations and sharing unwarranted advice. But remember, their thoughts or perceptions of us do not matter. These experiences have also kept some of us from reaching out to people and being vulnerable enough to make friends with the people God has placed on our path.

Like my pastor said earlier in the post, your trust should not reflect the relationships you have with those around you but reflect your relationship with God. Only through consistency (with Him) can faith be nurtured.

Trust must be built day by day. It calls for consistency. – John C. Maxwell

Look back at all God has protected you from in the past. What has God provided when you thought there was no way out of that situation? Have your children had to starve or go without (essentials)? Do you see the consistency of God in your life?

That same consistency should be enough for you to trust Him. But for us, it’s not enough. What if God said that even though I see you consistently work hard for the kingdom and prepare for future promotion, you still don’t deserve my complete confidence and belief that you can handle it. If I was you, I would be frustrated.

Look at all the things God has trusted you with:

  • The child/children he gave you.
  • His people
  • The money and provision he’s placed in your life.
  • His purpose that he gave to you long ago
  • Gifts and talents

What more can you do than trust Him with your life?

Below I share a couple of scriptures that have been helping me to trust in God daily. Because trust is a choice, you make day to day.

Ladies, 3 out of 6 of the supporting scriptures are from Proverbs. Proverbs is known as the book of wisdom and understanding. It is wise to trust God, and trusting that understands your circumstances.

All in all,

Being a single mom is hard. Trusting God can be even more challenging. But neither is impossible in Him. Trusting God not only frees you from the stress, worry, and frustration of being a single mom, but it gives you the understanding that you are not on this journey alone. God wants to see you thriving and growing, but it can only happen if you cast your cares on Him and trust God with and in everything.
