Spread the love

How would you rate your confidence since becoming mom? How has your view of yourself and your abilities changed with each new chapter in your life? Confidence has been ringing in my spirit this year. We talk about being confident, feeling confident, and admiring someone else’s confidence all the time, but do we know what having confidence is all about???

Do we know what it means to have real, authentic confidence? Do we know what it takes to truly walk in the confidence that shows up 100% of the time?

Like you, I didn’t know either so I took the time to find out…so keep reading.

Definition of Confidence

According to Merriam-Webster of 1828, Confidence is:

  1. A feeling or consciousness of one’s powers or of reliance on one’s circumstances
  2. Faith or belief that one will act in a right, proper, or effective way
  3. The quality or state of being certain
  4. A relation of trust or intimacy
  5. Reliance on another’s discretion
  6. Support especially in a legislative body
  7. A communication made in secret
After reading all that, I still didn’t know what confidence was and so I decided to go to the source. The Word!

Biblical Confidence: Gaining confidence authentically!

In the bible, confidence is referenced in a way of having complete trust and being open to God being our strength and ability. Often, we become impatient, moving our confidence from God into our own will, emotions, and power. God wants us to be open and unshakable in Him and only Him.

Confidence is not about getting the results, it’s about trusting that you are still intact no matter the outcome. We will continue to struggle with confidence until we allow Jesus to be our strength and source of courage no matter. To God, confidence is that the power and abilities that He placed in you will show up in everything you do and to help you move the mission of the Kingdom of God forward.

Check out the scriptures I found to support this:

  • Psalms 118:8-9
  • Isaiah 30:15
  • Hebrew 10:35
  • Jeremiah 17:7
  • Hebrew 11:1

Young-fidence vs Mom-fidence

Since I became a mom, I have had to deal with the healing and reconstruction of my confidence. Before becoming a mom, I could avoid facing my struggles with my lack of self-assurance.

If you are a mom, you know your whole sense of being is on the chopping block once the baby is born. If you’re not a mom yet, it’s crucial that you address and gives attention to the development of your confidence before having your first child.

Through the changes, the learning, and the testing of my gangster, I realized I was not as confident as I thought.

Nights of crying and feeling not capable or enough.
Losing my desire to even try anymore.
Feeling self-conscious about my actions and the behavior of my child.

I was slowly giving away my power and it was chipping at my confidence with one negative thought and action at a time.

So how am I supposed to begin gaining confidence as a single mom?

For me, I thought it was all about not caring what others thought of me, showing that I had it all together, and being fearless.

I was wrong!

Confidence is so much more than that.

The defining factor of confidence is the urge and desire to try despite the opposition. The firmness and faith within yourself, apart from external influences is what gaining confidence is all about. This was a game changer for me and it will be for you to.

I even enjoyed what I was learning so much that I had the courage to get trained in becoming a confidence coach to help other women reach this level of authentic, unshakeable boldness.

Below are questions to ask yourself as a woman and mom about what it looks like to you. These questions will help you start the process of reframing and transforming your confidence the way you envision, not the way the world tells you.

Questions to ask yourself to re-evaluate your confidence

1. Why do you think it’s time to work on your confidence?
2. What does confidence mean to you? Is your confidence rooted in God?
3. Who or what individuals do you look up to as examples?
4. At what moments in your life did you feel most confident in the past?
5. How much are you willing to invest to improve it?

Why Gaining Confidence Is Important?

Gaining confidence in God is necessary because God never changes. God is the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow. He is someone you can put your roots in and never worry about Him pulling them up or abusing them. God wants to walk with you as you grow and go deeper with you in a relationship through His son Jesus Christ.

One of the roots should be found in He is your root of confidence. This connected source shows that no matter what you face or come against, you are worthy, able, and belong because of your relationship with Christ. In that, you can have confidence that whatever the world throws at you does not compare or compete with the success, victory, or reassurance you have from your God-given identity and new life.

Gaining confidence is a journey, a process. This is why it’s gaining confidence and not accomplishing confidence. With every new chapter, every new level requires a new level of confidence from you to show up, whether at home, at work, in parenting, or within your faith community. If neglected, you will fall victim to the cruel world’s standards and your own strength, which is not enough to overcome this world.

“For me, so far, confidence has been a journey, not a destination.”– Jessica Williams

All in all,

I pray that these questions ignite a fire in you and get your wheels spinning. I know what it is like to know that something needs to change, and you don’t know where to start. Most of the time, we need to take the time to finally sit down and have a conversation with ourselves or others to help us process.

We always have the answer inside of us. We have to take the time to invest in ourselves. As a mom, time is limited. But with some planning, consulting God’s Word, and willpower to discipline yourself, you can make significant transformations in your life.

I will share that confidence is not a destination; it’s a long journey of learning, trying, failures, changes, and accomplishments. Gaining confidence should be a part of your lifestyle and self-care routine. Choose today that you will choose to be confident!

  1. This: “Confidence is not about getting the results, it’s about trusting that you are still intact no matter the outcome.” Loved this. I am in a season of not-getting-what-I-want right now. Of feeling inadequate and powerless and unmotivated to do what God’s called me to do. I really appreciate your thoughts on this topic, and I will be keeping them in mind as I continue to push on in what God’s called me to.

    1. Your comment is so beautiful! The honesty and transparency that you have demonstrated is what you need to overcome this season. I have been in that season more than I would like to admit but I know I will always come out of it, better, more in-tune, and with new fire. Stay true to what you know and work diligently in that. Know your God is good and you will be exalted in due time.

  2. I love how you write in some biblical reference as I’m a woman of faith too! Confidence is being able to present yourself in a way that you radiate positive energy to the people around you. It’s about trusting yourself and using your skills to help others.
