5 Tips For Improving Your Confidence Today

Spread the love

Most times when you think about confidence, you think I am already confident. Why do I need to improve? Confidence is not a destination, it’s a part of you that needs nurturing. So, improving your confidence is essential.

Just like with other things like relationships, your health, and your career, you have to work on ways to improve them to continue to blossom in them.

I remember when I was a little girl, so excited to show the first boy I ever liked that I liked him. I made him a card and everything, only to be rejected and embarrassed by him. From that moment on, there have been experiences that chipped away at my confidence daily. This is why I encourage ongoing maintenance of your personal confidence.

Improving Your Confidence

In this life, things will chip away at you causing you to question your authentic self. But that is what the enemy wants you to do, he wants you to not realize our full potential. God has designed us in a way to be authentic and to walk firmly in our purpose. If you look at the life of Jesus, he stood firm in what his purpose was and walked confidently when people tried to ruin his character. Jesus is a great example of how to nurture your confidence through life.

I often use faith interchangeably with confidence because they go hand and hand. Faith is confidence in the spiritual (unseen) and Confidence is assurance in yourself in the natural. As men, we live in both realms even if we are not of the world (Romans 12:2).

Below I share 5 easy tips to help you improve your confidence daily. Keep reading…

Get dressed up and care about your appearance.

Now don’t get me wrong. This is not a vain statement. I am not telling you to wear makeup or buy a new wardrobe of clothes. All I am saying is care about how you present yourself to yourself. Remember your own mind can make judgements of yourself as well. For a period of time, I let myself go and it definitely reflected on the inside. I started to care about my health and how I presented myself; eventually, my confidence started to rise. Changing from the inside out can often be a hard, challenging journey. But when you take small steps with everyday things you can change, the journey gets easier.

  • Iron your clothes.
  • Get your hair done.
  • Wear a bright color.
  • Put on that outfit you’ve been afraid to wear but love.

Listen to music that makes you feel fearless.

This tip is one of my go to easy implementations to improve my confidence. Especially, when I have something big and scary coming up, I listen to music that gets me going and feeling unstoppable. Whether you have I-Tunes, Spotify, Pandora, or rely on Youtube, you can always create a playlist that you  have handy to help with improving your confidence in the moment.

Check out my confidence playlist here.

If you all can remember, amazing moments in your life can always be tied back to a song . Music is a great influence to the human experience because emotions are always tied to the song. That is why they tell you to be careful of the music you listen to because it can shape your thought life. Having inspirational songs in your arsenal keeps your confidence in the right trajectory mentally.

Learn what God says about you and live it.

This tip is the most important of them all. It may take you a little bit of time and effort but it’s the most beneficial for long-term, unshakeable confidence. How I started was I searched for scriptures around the topic of confidence. Once I had a list of scriptures, then I was able to dive deeper into the biblical concept of confidence.

In addition, I started studying courage and boldness which are common synonyms for it. In the bible app, there are a handful of study plans to choose from. However you find out what God says, meditate on it and determine how you can apply the new learned principles to your life and situation. You can also use God’s Word as mantras that you can speak to yourself to build your confidence. Here are a few scriptures to start:

  • Hebrews 10:35-36
  • Joshua 1:9
  • Psalm 139:13-14

Try or learn something new.

This can be a tricky tip to implement because some low confidence can stem from not feeling adequate to do a certain task. This inadequacy can come from lack of knowledge, lack of training, and the fear of succeeding. When picking a new thing to try or learn, don’t pick something that is so complex that it sends you into retreat mode. Pick a skill or activity that is fun and intriguing so you can just get the joy and excitement out of it for just experiencing it.

In return, you will lift your spirits and it gives you encouragement to step out and go after things that are new and seem scary. A great quote once reminded me that you won’t know what you can or cannot do until you try.

Life has no limits except for the ones you make. -Les Brown

Affirm Yourself

Last but not least, affirm yourself. We can take in all these external tools to help improve our confidence, but the truth is that we need to be able to be confident from the inside. If everything around us doubts us, then we should hold on to our confidence that we have the ability to try and feel good no matter the outcome.

You may know of this method in the terms of affirmations but it’s basically how you’re talking to yourself and what you believe you are capable of. One thing I do is write with a maker on my bathroom mirror what I want and what I want to become. This method has kept me confident and keeping my eye on the prize. Improving your confidence starts with improving your view of your authentic self.
