Spread the love

Get ready for the confidence overload this month. As a new found reader, I have been indulging in books and going into debt because of Amazon’s easy one click order process. It gets me in trouble everytime. Books on confidence is my new craze.

This year I had a goal to read at least 12 books this year. And I am going to be honest, I’ve only read 5 so far.

Don’t worry I am not beating myself up about…I am confident I can get the rest done in the remaining 4 months.

Check out the recent post: What does confidence mean to you as a mom?

My Journey To Becoming A Reader

One thing I wanted to accomplish this year was training to enjoy reading again. Why? Because I aspire to be a writer.

For so long, I was told that my writing was terrible and I always received my lowest grades in english classes. Well, any class that required a great deal of papers and reports.

So I went around thinking that I could not write or I sucked at communicating. Flashback to 4-5 years ago, when I finally decided to walk with Jesus fully and genuinely, my journey to self-discovery began. Through my fellowship with God, I found out that I am not only gifted to be an encourager, but I am purposed to communicate.

Confidence In Your Purpose

Now I will be honest, I don’t know what all that entails but I am going to follow the path God has for me. I was so excited when Made New Mama was placed on my heart and I started to blog, I felt like I finally found my voice.

And now I over-communicate, just kidding.

However, one thing that blew my mind was that the one thing that I thought was my weakness and affected my relationships, turned out to be my greatest strength. So I researched how to become what I was destined to be and  I found this amazing quote that sparked me into wanting to become an avid reader:

“Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary.” – Jim Rohn

Now, I am on my journey to becoming a reader and eventually becoming the author/communicator that I know I was gifted to be. With great responsibility, you are required to do some healing and evolving. Therefore, I began my journey with unusual books on confidence that have helped me along the way.

Below I share the top 5 confidence books I read to help me overcome and thrive as a single mother, aspiring entrepreneur, and a woman of God.

This read has been a game changer for me with going after what I want. The time Gay took to develop this concept regarding the Zone of Genius has left me in awe of his work. Boundaries was an eye-opener book for me. I knew I have always struggled in relationships but I did not know the impact a lack of boundaries can cause. The only way you can implement boundaries is if your confidence is intact. In that moment, I knew it was time to work on my confidence in order to have healthy boundaries in dating, with family, friends, and in parenting. If your confidence is affecting your effectiveness in relationships, then this book is for you.

God Loves Single Momsconfidence, hope, strength, God, single moms

Well, I have not finished this book completely but it has been an amazing resource for me as a single mother. With the many practical tips from a trained psychologist, real-life connection as a single mom herself, Teresa provided a dose of faith to help single moms to confidently thrive in their circumstances. I am enjoying it so far, so it was only right to share. If you are a single mom struggling to walk confidently on this single parenting journey and in need of God’s love and hope, this book is for you.

Relational Intelligencefaith, relationships, career, relational intelligence

This book never gets old for me. I may recommend it over and over again, but that is because I believe in the power of the content in this book. If you need to grow in your relationship with God and understand how He wants us to navigate our relationships, this book is for you. The insight and perspective of Dr. Dharius amazes me each time I open this book. This book was an amazing investment and great addition to my books on confidence.

” A book is a gift that you can open again and again.” -Garrison Keillor

And even on this journey, I found out about a great app that helps you keep track of the books you’ve read, want to read, and are in the process of reading. I can purchase books directly through the app and even provide a review. The Goodreads app is a great place to stay organized and be in the know of the hottest books out right now in any genre. My best friend put me on to this app. Thanks bestie!

All in all,

Reading has been such an amazing low cost, self-care activity . I am growing mentally, intellectually, and finally getting the rest that I need. Books have helped me prepare for many things. But there is one book that has ultimately changed my life in the realm of confidence, which is the Bible.

Whichever book you decide to read from this list, I encourage you to share it with others. There is something amazing about shared knowledge and communicating through pages. Therefore, I will leave you with another quote:

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
