Spread the love

Do you see God as your Father? Does your relationship with your natural father affect the way you see God as your Heavenly Father? Today, I am going into detail through bible study on the father qualities of God and how you can start experiencing or teaching your children to experience God as their father.

Single Moms and Father Wounds

Many single moms like you and me come from different backgrounds and paternal relationships. I thank God everyday that I was able to have some sort of a close relationship with my father, even if it was visiting him in prison every other weekend mixed with years of him being home, working.

Whether you always had your dad in the home or not, there was a time in your life that your father did not represent the true role of a father. I am talking about the father qualities of God that did not show up in your household for you to experience.

Even if you had no issues, as single moms, we often find ourselves attempting to educate and intercede for our children regarding their heart toward their father or lack thereof. Desiring to mend a void that the parent’s choices made.

However, I want to help you know the true design for a father from God himself. Through this study today, you will uncover the 10 amazing father qualities of God that you can pass on to your children or even look for when dating and preparing for a future marriage partner. But first, we must set a foundation.

God As Our Father

Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. 1 Corinthians 8:6 NLT

And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Matthew 23:9 NLT

God is our father! Of course, it is a blessing to have an earthly father; however, God knew that this world was deep in sin and that there was a possibility for the family structure to be tampered with due to our constant with our fleshly desires, will, and emotions.

So to rectify the situation, God sent his Son, so that we can be re-united with Him and be able to be adopted into His family again so we can be His children again. Only a true father will go above and beyond to make sure his children are taken care of.

God continues to show His love for us through action, speech (Word) and faithful love. As our father, God continues to show up for us and walk with us as we grow and mature in righteousness. He wants you and your children to know that He is your Father and will always be with you, never leaving or forsaking.

So we can rest assure that studying the father qualities of God provides us with a criteria and blueprint to what we should expect from every type of father in our life and children’s lives. Learning God’s fatherly qualities gives peace, boundaries to set, and confidence that we can trust Him and are taken care of as His children.

10 Father Qualities Of God

Now these are only a short but amazing list of fatherly qualities of God. However, I would always encourage you to do an extensive study for yourself. It would also be an amazing study to do with your children as well.

I pray that you feel the love of God through the study of God, our Father and deepen your relationship with your Heavenly Father.

God Loves

Scripture: 1 John 3:1

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.

God’s love is massive. He gives us love more than what is necessary, so that we can understand Him as our father. His love shows us who we are, our identity. We are different from the world and we can only understand that if we are connected to our Father.

Just like in the natural when the young man has to get the father’s blessing, so does people of the world and satan himself. God’s love covers us, protects us and makes us whole.

How have you experienced God’s love as your Father?

Heavenly Father, I love that I can call you father. I love that I can rest in knowing that whatever I lack in this world, you are there to fill in the gap. Lord help me to see you as our only father and that we will grow and mature through and because of your love for us. In Jesus name, Amen.

God Gives

Scripture: Matthew 7:9-11 NLT

Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

God gives and He gives good. He doesn’t give us what we don’t need, he doesn’t always give us what we want, but he gives us everything we need.

All God requires of us is to ask Him, and He indeed gives according to His will. But not without refining us and providing us opportunities to grow in gratitude. God wants to generously and freely give to us.

What gift are God given you as a Father? If you are struggling to see them, how are you going to commit to counting your blessings moving forward?

Father God, I am in awe of how you give to your children. You have allowed for your heart of generocity to get passed down into our DNA. We are grateful for every great gift we receive from you or that we give because of you. Teach us to strengthen our giving muscle and rest in the fact our father will always give us good gifts. In Jesus name, Amen.

God Teaches

Scripture: Isaiah 28:26, Psalm 32:8 NLT

His God instructs him and teaches him the right way.

I will instruct and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

God is not in the business of creating you and bringing you into this world just to leave you here without support or instruction. Many of us have experienced natural fathers in this way but God is not that type of father. God uses His position as your Heavenly Father to teach you the things of the kingdom, his way, and his thoughts.

He created an entire book of God-inspired teachings to help you through life. We can rest assured that God is teaching and keeping his eye on you to ensure you stay on track and leave a legacy. That’s what father’s do.

What is Father God teaching is this season of your life? What can you pass down to your children that He taught you in the past?

Daddy God, thank you for always sharing your wisdom with your children. Thank you for taking the time to love and adore us enough to teach us your ways, your plans and your thoughts through the Word. God help me to have a desire to learn more and more from you Heavenly Father so that I will not get off track but stay in your perfect will as your daughter. In Jesus name, Amen.

God Disciplines

Scripture: Hebrew 12:7 NLT

As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father?

A present father wouldn’t let you go around being a menace and allow you to continue down the wrong path. God, our Father, is that type of father to us. He may let you bump your head and experience things just enough to know that your Father knows more than you do.

God disciplines us, not in harshness much anymore, even though His wrath is mighty. God prefers to discipline us through boundaries, commandments, and divine corrections. And as the scripture says, who ever heard of a father that never course-corrects his children? Underparenting is at an all-time how right now; this must change.

How does how you discipline your children align with the discipline of God, the Father? How has God been disciplining you?

Abba Father, we need you more than ever. Children are growing up without the discipline of their father and are underparented to the point that generations are suffering. God step in, fill the voids in those children of yours that have gone without the discipline of a father, young and old. Lord, we sumbit to your divine discipline that redeems us over and over again. In Jesus name, Amen.

God Comforts

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

God comforts us at all times. When we are scared to try something new, when our heart is broken, and even when we find ourselves in the greatest of troubles. God gives mercy even when He feels we should have listened, but He knows we can not overcome without Him.

God as our merciful Father does not stop there. He gives us comfort so we will know how to comfort others and ourselves in future times of trouble and discomfort. Rest in the arms of your Heavenly Father because He is here for you when you need Him always.

In what ways has God comforted you recently? How do you pay the comfort forward to those around you?

Merciful Father, you continue to amaze me with your all encompassing nature. I am forever grateful to have you as my father that comforts me and in all my afflictions. Even when I’ve bumped my head, trip and fall, and got my heart broken, I know I be confident that you will be there and comfort me in all my troubles. Thank you for teaching me how to show up for other people too. Help me to remember that the more I suffer for Christ, you are there to shower me with comfort. In Jesus name, Amen.

God Provides

Scripture: Phillippians 4:19, Genesis 22:14 NLT

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.

God is our provider, period! He supplies all our needs and as our father, make sure we never go without. The scripture says “ Yet I have nerver seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.” God, our father, not only provides money, but provides resources, quality time, relationships, wisdom, love, correction, whatever we need to live.

Natural fathers get hung up on providing monterily that they forget a father provides more than that. Father’s provide identity, vision, stability, and a foundation for trust. God does all of that and more for us.

Father, your word reminds us that you have always been our provider. No child support check or money provided will ever satisfy all the other needs that are to provided by a father. God continue you be our father that brings us honor to our life, that we no longer lack but have everything we need in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Protects

Scripture: Psalm 18:2 NLT

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.

God is many things to us. But as our Father, we must lean into his protection. I remember many times I placed myself in unfavorable situations. Instead of leaving me out vulnerable and exposed, my Heavenly Father protected me and continues to be my place of safety.

We can rest in that if anything in coming toward us to harm us, our Father will step in and protect us from it. I don’t know how many accidents I missed just by God whispering softly to look up or take a few more minutes before leaving the house. Natural father should do the same for their children.

God, my Father, my rock, my shield, thank you for your protection. You keep me safe from so much in the world and in the spirit. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but you continue to stand in between as my Great and Mighty Father God. I move confidently through this life knowing that I have you as my rock, a father I can count on when no one else is here for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Affirms

Scripture: Psalm 138:3, Romans 8:16 NLT

As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength.

For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

Have you ever seen a child mimic or possess charactersistics and traits of their parent? The same is for us as His children; we are affirmed and identified by the Spirit of God. The Spirit of our Heavenly Father encourages us and declares who we are.

Fathers have the responsibility within the family structure to provide the foundation and build up the children in a way that gives them vision and encouragement to be confident and conquer the world. God does that for His children on so many levels.

List declarations and scriptures from the Word that has affirmed you as His daughter and as a child of God. Meditate on these day and night.

Abba Father, who you are makes me everything I am. In you, I find my identity, in you I find courage. You affirm me with every Word you say about me. I am who you say I am. God continue to reveal to me who I am in you as your daughter and you as my father. May I no longer look to everyone and everything else to affirm; I am already chosen by You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Plans

Scripture: Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

One thing about a great father is that he makes plans for himself, his family, and even in a way, his children. God plans the paths for His children. God’s plans for us are good with a future and hope. We can be confident that God’s plans are in our best interest. One of the most improtant of the father qualities.

Nowadays, children are unable to trust the plans of their fathers, starting from scratch and doing everything on their own. It is the father’s responsibility to establish that trust of his family by establishing the vision and steps he’s planning to take to make sure his legacy and future generations are good. God does that for us.

What plans has God revealed to you? What purpose, calling, and future has he provided for you to see? If you don’t know, seek Him today about it.

Heavenly Father, I rest in your vision and your plan for my life. I am confident that when I follow your lead, I will not fail. You set an evironment where I can trust your judgement as your child and that is where my obedience and honor follows. There is no doubt you are my Father and where you lead me, I will go as your daughter. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God Is With You

Scripture: Joshua 1:9, Galatians 4:6 NLT

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

For a lot of us in the natural, we don’t know what it’s like to have a present father. A father that has been with us all the time and showed up when we needed them the most. There are a lot of fatherless children in the world, which breaks my heart.

Yet, the Word reminds us that God is “ the father to the fatherless, defender of the widows” We can rest in the truth that God is our Father. We can go to Him about anything, and He will walk with us every step of the way. God is the ultimate example of a father, and His father qualities should echo across this age to see a great resurrection of God’s family structure.

Take a moment right now to praise God as your Father. Worship Him for who He is and continues to be in your life. Seal your worship with a prayer to always recognize God as your Heavenly Father from this day forward.

And if you haven’t done so already, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior by confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart.

Abba Father, thank you for sending the Spirit of your Son into our hearts so that we can know that you are always with us. You remind us over and over again that you will never leave us but will be with us wherever we go. Help us to rest in this promise. Some of us are dealing with abandonment issues because our natural father or children’s father left us. Lord, heal those parts of us and fill our empty places with your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

All in all,

God is our Heavenly Father that continues to show up for us and our children even if the earthly fathers have not stepped into their rightful place. God wants you to know that He is always there to fill in the gaps if you let him into your life, into your family, and be the head over everything concerning you.

God knew when sin crept into the world, we would need a redemptive plan. In which, the greatest fatherly act He has ever done was give His only son so that we can live again in closeness with Him.

No matter where you are in regards to the idea of fathers and their role in your life or children’s life, know that God has the father qualities that will meet the need where there is lack in your heart. Lean on your Heavenly Father to cover you and your family today.
