How To Create Confidence Affirmations For Yourself + Free Printable and Worksheet

Spread the love

There has always been conversation about positive self-talk, negative self talk, and why we should be mindful of what our inner dialogue is. And I get it, there has been an unbalance of the pendulum with negative talk becoming the norm. But I was so elated when I found out about the power behind affirmations. You can have affirmations for whatever you need. This post here is on a set of confidence affirmations I’ve used over the years to help me work on my confidence.

If you follow me on any of my social media accounts, you’ll see that I started a series of #MadeNewAffirmations just like the one you see here.

I use these affirmations to not only remind myself of better ways of thinking but also my diverse audience of single moms. This is why I thought it would be perfect that I explain affirmations and how you can use them as handy tools to increase your confidence.

How Affirmations Began

Affirmations can be dated back to Bible days. But didn’t become a trend until the early 2000s. The oldest one I could think of is by far my favorite. God says:

I Am Who I Am!

Oh Jesus! Come through with the chills God. But moreover, Jesus and the Father was the epitome of confidence and focus. And through their statements, they declared and affirmed what was true.

Affirmations are truth wrapped up in encouragement and inspiration. Oftentimes, we can get so caught up in the lies from others and the lies we tell are self. It’s refreshing when we can consistently break up the lies with truth.

Why Are Affirmations Effective?

I think the real question is how are they effective? It’s effectiveness is based on a psychological phenomenon where our brain stores and processes information. If our minds receive input enough, then it becomes stored in areas of long-term memory and retrieval.

Science has a self-affirmation theory and the use of affirmations for cognitive restructuring. This allows for trained thoughts and emotions to be embodied in the person if statements are used consistently. Rewiring the brain to think in positive ways than negatively.

Positivepsychology.com has a nice in-depth article about how affirmations work and even provide examples to use for certain circumstances.

How To Use Affirmations?

You use affirmations as just general statements, scriptures, or meditations. Most often, people will place them around their home, in their car, on the electronics or other places they see often. For women of faith, prayer and meditation are big opportunities to incorporate our personal daily affirmations.

Below I share key things to consider when writing your own affirmations to jumpstart your journey with confidence. I’ve also attached a free printable worksheet to help you work through just in case coming up with your own confidence affirmations are a bit challenging.

Confidence Affirmations: Do you have yours?

How To Write Affirmations:

  • Keep It Simple

Don’t try to be too detailed. Therefore, make your affirmation statement short and concise. A good rule of thumb is to keep it to one sentence. Words ranging from 3 to 10 words. I will be going through examples later on in the post.

  • Write About Present Truths or Changes You Want To See

Try to think about what you want to feel, see, and experience now. Try to focus on the present but it’s okay to incorporate some future and hope in your statements. Personally, I prefer to focus on what is true in the moment.

  • Focus On You

Focus on how the affirmations relate to you. You can make affirmations about your family or friends but always connect it back to you. Unless you are creating affirmations for someone else.

Below are some examples:

  1. I am okay whether something goes my way or not.
  2. I have all the tools to pursue my goals and my dreams.
  3. Single motherhood has given me the skills to start my business.
  4. I am able to manage and feel my emotions.

With anything I always want to provide you with a free resource to get you going. Below, I have created confidence affirmations that I have used for myself. In addition, there’s a writing prompt sheet that allows for you to write any other affirmations you may have for yourself around confidence.
