5 Changes To Make For Single Mom Success This Year

Spread the love

Single Mom Success Revealed

I think the biggest misconception regarding single mom success around the new year is that you are starting over new. That is far from the truth! A new year only resets your number of days but it does not change the intangibles and the journey you are whether it was all blessings  or heaviness being carried into the new year.

Single mom success is truly dependent on how well we use the new set of 365 days provided and the steps we took in the years prior to support our goals. True overcoming is when you face the things that are keeping you stuck and/or in a place of constant challenges. True success is when conquer them or thrive despite them.

As single moms, it may seem like challenges are a norm but when you finally become fed up and acknowledge your power (given by God) to change it, you begin to see success on the horizon.

Success Defined

But I just don’t want to through the ‘SUCCESS’ term out there like it does not hold any value or even it has no uniqueness based on the person. Success is definitely what you define it to be. Your family defines it, this world defines it, the company you work for defines it. So why do you think when it comes to you, you don’t need to define it.

Success is what it means to you, not to everyone else. Only you know when you have truly reached fulfillment. And for me, my ultimate success is when I reached Matthew 25:23, so I have plenty of work in the meantime.

Can single moms be successful?

Not sure why this is even a question, at all. But I will answer it! Yes, single moms can be successful. I know we live in a society that like to emphasize the hardships associated with single motherhood. However, times have changed.

Most single mothers now are well-educated, high earners, and doing the necessary work to thrive with or with the support of a co-parent. What makes a single mom successful is her determination, imagination, and community. Thank God for community!

Are there any successful single mom stories I can glean from?

There are a ton of successful single moms out there. Some of the popular one’s that are still single moms or were single moms:

The list can go on. However, despite them being highly successful before or after their child, they are still living their dreams and living their best life with their children by their side. Yes, these ladies are all well-known. But if you look around you in your own community, you can easily find another single mom thriving and living a successful life. So don’t fret!

How do I plan for success and achieving goals?

In all honesty, that is a really good question. Even though each of our definitions of what success is may be different, the preparation and planning of it is consistent across the board. Here’s the steps:

  1. Take time to reflect and decide what success looks like for you in this chapter of your life.
  2. Write down your expections, your intentions, and the type of value-based life you want to live moving forward.
  3. Identify small steps or actions you can take to move your success vision forward.
  4. Begin to prioritize and delegate time to put your success plan into action.
  5. Spend time assessing your success plan’s progress weekly, your performance and ways to overcome challenges that have arised.
  6. Celebrate small ‘success’ wins to keep you motivated and excited about your journey to success.

Honestly, these are the ‘bare bone’ steps but they will keep you on the right track when it comes to your single mom success plan. You will also need 1-2 close compadres that knows about your plan and will help you maintain your committment throughout the year and beyond.

5 Changes To Make For Single Mom Success

Below I share with you 5 definite criterias for success that I believe would be ideal for women like you to adopt and to add to your single mom success plan. (You created a plan right? 👀)

1. Be Intentional About Your Faith Walk – Closed mouths don’t get fed.

Our first change for the year would be going all in when it comes to your faith walk and relationship with God. As single moms, we can have so much weighing down on us and things burdening us.

But instead of masking that you’re so strong and able to handle things with no worry, choose to actually be real with yourself and God, letting Him know how much you need him and that you believe He will take care of you and your little family.

Asking him about what you need, don’t understand, and your future, especially if you are not the type of person that will share these with other people. Start with God and you will see how easier it gets to share with others intimately.

Faith allows us to see past our current situation and believe that God has a plan for us for good and not for harm.

2. Prioritize Asking For Help – It really does take a village to meet your goals.

I feel like this would me the hardest change for single mom success but it is so necessary. Asking for help does not make you weak or less of a mother. It actually shows you how much strength you do have.

Find people you can trust to take care of your babies (including your childrens, goals, deep emotions, and time) in away that supports you but also inspires you to keep pressing forward.

For me, I have a few family members I trust, parent friends, sisters in Christ, and a growing entrpreneural circle to help walk with me toward my different goals this year. I would’t have these people in my life unless I intentionally looked for them and it has sped up my journey to single mom success I would say.

3. Heal What You Need To Heal – Be open to therapy, heal the 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 year old you.

I know alot of us like to avoid this part of process but it’s very critical to the sustainability and longevitivity of your single mom success. I recently decided to brave it out and follow through with starting trauma therapy. Since starting, I cried every session but I feel 10x better once I process why all of the digging was necessary.

Healing allows you to remove the things that are blocking you and make room for the new coming that will be apart your single mom success in life.

4. Elevate Yourself – Professionally, Financially, Creatively, and as a Parent.

Go to town sis! Learn as much as you can, implement what you receive, and master new skills and disciplines. A month should not pass and you do not remember trying something new, learning something, or improving an area of your life in a micro way.

In order for you to elevaye yourself in a focused, clear way, you will need to create a single mom success plan using cheat sheet provided below to keep you in the right direction.

It’s only the first week of the year and I have already learned a strategy to improve order in my home which was a small step, but a huge win for my well-being. You will only get out of this year what you put in.

5. Make Time For Those Who Truly Matter – Balance and Love

Some of us, we have no problem making changes regarding elevating ourselves, asking for help, walking with Jesus, and going to therapy. But in the grand scheme, we can sometimes forget to be present with those that matter most in a non-transactional way.

Like the Word says, there is a time and season for everything. So this is why when you are making your single mom success plan, I encourage you consult God about His intentions for you this year. Even though you could make all 5 changes a priority, he may be asking you to change only this one.

God is doing a major thing this year for everyone. But I feel for single mothers specifically, He is attempting to recalibrate and help us unpack the things that block us from moving forward.

I see so many single mothers, no longer single (reclaiming the family structure).

I see children raised by single moms thriving instead of becoming statistics.

I envision needs being met in abundance and generosity flowing from their hands.

I feel that their households are being restored to a supernatural order, with healthy kids & healthy community.

Therefore, I will keep advocating for the Made New encounter for you and the transformation that’s taking place you read.

MAKE SURE YOU DO YOUR SUCCESS PLAN BEFORE THE END OF THE MONTH!

Need ideas on what areas you should be making goals in to measure you success this year as a single mom?

Here are some examples of areas you may want to cover:

  • Faith/Spirituality
  • Parenting/Home Order
  • Physical Health
  • Financial Health
  • Relationships
  • Career/Job/Purpose
  • Intellectual
  • Emotional/Mental
  • Creativity
  • Community/Philanthropy/Volunteering

Identify which areas are most improtant in this season of your life. This is why taking time to pray and plan is so important. Vision is neccessary for success and we can get overwhelmed trying to succeed at it all. No bueno!

All in all,

My prayer for you today, whether you are a single mother or only reading due to your close connection to a single mom, is that success, triumph, victory, blessings, abundance, healing, restoration, security are flowing from your mouth all year. And I know God will get the glory from all of it.
