Spread the love

Hey Moms! It feels like it’s been awhile since I wrote a blog post. I wanted to write about something that has been working well for me in this season. Today, I want to share with you ways to get in God’s Word that are easy, structured for busy moms, and will get you well on your way to being thirsty for the Word of God.

The Back Story Of Busy Moms

With everything I write there is always a back story. A moment in time where an experience was had and a lesson was learned. I will be honest with you all. Even though I love encouraging others with God’s Word, there are times where it takes everything in me to get into God’s word. About 2-3 months ago, I had a bout of spiritual apathy.

For everything in me, I could not get into God’s Word. I would try to read but my mind was going somewhere else. Often times during that season I got discouraged and in came all the negative self-talk:

“You will never get your spiritual life together.”

“God is definitely not pleased with you.”

“How are you going to encourage others in God’s way if you can’t even open up your bible?”

Satan definitely tried to dampen my light in that moment. So I got up and sat with my bible until a verse or a scripture spoke to me and awakened my hunger and thirst for God amidst all that was going on in my life and in the world. I was tired and I refused to take another “L” to the enemy. Then I came across this verse that made me get fired up and I haven’t been the same since. The verse was:

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. Joshua 1:8 NLT

Taking Inventory of God’s Word In Your Life

So in order for me to get to where God was calling me to in the verse mentioned above. I had to fully understand meditation and what I was meditating on daily.

Meditation: (Webster 1828’s Dictionary)

Close or continued thought; the turning or revolving of a subject in the mind; serious contemplation.

Meditate or Meditating: (Webster 1828’s Dictionary)

To dwell on anything in thought; to contemplate; to study; to turn or revolve any subject in the mind; appropriately but not exclusively used of pious contemplation, or a consideration of the great truths of religion.

To intend; to have in contemplation.

To think on; to revolve in the mind.

Reflection

Once I understood what meditation is and what it means in action, I had to dig deeper and figure out what was going on in my heart and my mind around getting into God’s Word. Some questions were:

  • What are you focusing on each and every day?
  • If you can think of the last three things you thought about in the last hour, what were your thoughts?
  • What is most important to you? Do your thoughts and actions match?
  • To your understanding, why do you think you neglect getting into God’s Word?
  • How do you feel when you don’t get it done? Are these the feelings you want to have on a regular basis?

And I tell y’all… These questions ate me up!

I literally became tearful because I know in my heart that I am called for greater things (Jeremiah 1:5). This girl was in desperate need of tough love, not from others, but from myself. For too long, I would believe my own deceptions and lies in return making them my truth. (Galatians 6:3) I had to break myself free from this pattern of being less than what I knew I could do.

Where does that stem from?

With reflection, I noticed that for so long I would dumb down my accomplishments and what I know to make others comfortable. Ouch! I chose to live half my life for the comfort of others. I am so upset with myself. Anybody else ever had a moment where you have prolonged your blessings due to your own choices and doings? I decided in that moment to step up to the plate and be a good steward of the small disciplines and talents that God has given me. (Titus 1:7-9)

And on that day, I have started to implement small but impactful ways to get into God’s Word. You may be doing some of these already but I know they have been such a blessing to keep me focused on and meditating on God’s word day and night. Keep reading…

5 Easy Ways To Get Into God’s Word For Busy Moms

Easy, God's Word, Busy Moms, Growth, Social Media, Single Moms

I don’t like to speak certain things over myself but sometimes I have to face the facts. I AM A BUSY MOM! A busy single mom at that. Working full-time, running my household, caring for my child, and even working to build my online blog business and life coaching practice. This mama is TIRED! Besides my circumstances, there is no excuse for not taking the time to read and process God’s Word. There is the primary way of just sitting down and opening up your bible but these alternative ways can infiltrate your daily tasks and activities. Here is the list of ways:

  • Email Devotionals

This has been the most helpful for me as I am always in my email checking on everything for business, personal and in between. I found this awesome devotional website that sends daily emails as well as physical publications. The website is called The Upper Room.

I love this devotional because it’s everyday people sending in their own personal devotionals. Each devotional includes a scripture text, story, personal prayer, prayer focus, and thought of the day (to meditate on). I would highly recommend this method if you love to hear other people’s stories and revelation from God’s Word.

  • YouVersion Bible App

Many of you probably already use this app but for those who don’t know about it yet, this app is amazing. You always have your phone with you as a mom so as easy as opening up your phone, you can be in the Word. The YouVersion Bible App is an all-encompassing resource for all your needs faith wise.

The Bible App includes daily bible plans, verse of the day, you can connect with friends, access the bible anywhere, has all the bible versions you can think of, and allows for you to highlight, share, and take notes. The Bible App comes in an adult version and kid version as well. What better way than have your babies involved too.

All you have to do is go into your app store whether Android or IOS to download. You can also access this app on your tablet or laptop. I have this app on all my devices and in the bookmarks on my computer.

  • Youtube Sermons

This is a new method I’m doing more of when I am done with reading another plan or devotional. I know there are a great deal of popular pastors out now that are streaming and posting their sermons online. With COVID and the age of social media, more and more pastors are inclined to post their sermons.

I will be making another post with some of my favorite online pastors that have been keeping motivated in all this chaos. But here are a few that I love to watch all the time, such as Joyce Meyers, Priscilla Shirer, Michael Todd, Dharius Daniels, and even my very own Pastor Sean Moore. Instead of bingeing Netflix, binge watch some sermon series that are pouring out God’s Word weekly.

  • Follow Faith-Based, Christian Brands On Social Media

How many of us mamas are on Social Media on a regular basis? Average person is on social media for at least 3 hours a day, which is crazy. And I know for some of us moms, it is a way of escape when the kids are getting to be overwhelming. I took a big step by cleaning out my news feed of people and pages that were not pointing me towards God. I had to stop following the sexy body page on Instagram that kept meditating on the thing I asked God to deliver me from, Lust.

I’m just being transparent.

I used various hashtags on Instagram and looked for certain groups/pages on Facebook that share scriptures and promote the principles of the bibles. I even share these things on the Made New Mama page on Facebook and Instagram. You can start your search there.

  • Use Bible/Scripture Study Plans on Pinterest

Last but not least, my favorite platform to waste all of my night sleep hours, Pinterest. Just kidding. Pinterest is an amazing platform to get ideas, recipes, and content on any topic you need. Fun fact: Pinterest is the top social platform for moms and women. I am pretty sure you have a Pinterest account or have looked on Pinterest at least once.

You can find encouraging articles to improve your spiritual life, printables to organize your bible study, and follow boards that are specifically about reading/meditating on God’s Word. You can even find images that you can save to your phone around topical scripture studies. How amazing is that! You can start off with following my Pinterest boards that will get you started on your journey.

All in all,

Whatever is standing in your way of spending time with God, move it out the way and make room for it. I can not name any other then that can encourage me, enlighten me, restore me, and/or refresh me the way God can. I know life can get crazy busy, especially if you are a single mom doing it all on your own. But with every trial and tribulation, there is a way of escape. And that path is through Jesus. The only way you will know and embrace this is by opening up the bible and saturating yourself in His truth.

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 ESV

  1. I love all the ways that we have access to God’s word. I love having an app on my phone that I can use to read the Bible anywhere I am. I also just started getting a daily email with a verse and that helps me too.
