How To Be Brave: Uncover Your Strength With God In 3 Ways (+Free Scripture Study)

Spread the love

The world can make it seem like bravery is only for superheroes and fearless men. But I know a lot of everyday women and mothers who are waking up and being brave in their careers, parenting, faith, and families. However, plenty of women don’t know how to be brave. And if you keep reading, you will learn how to uncover your strength for yourself with God.

What Makes Me Brave?

The definition of brave is:

  • ready to face and endure danger or pain; showing courage.
  • endure or face (unpleasant conditions or behavior) without showing fear.

Ask yourself, when have I been ready for danger or endure unpleasant situations without showing fear?

I bet you can name at least one situation where you have. So the question is not whether you can be brave, it is whether you can show up like this in every situation? Is brave a lifestyle for you?

What makes you brave is what you decide to focus on in the moment: the pain or the victory. It is between the pain and victory that you define who you are and what you are going to accomplish. Therefore, allow bravery to get you to triumph in the end.

What Are The Qualities Of A Brave Woman?

A brave woman is:

    • Adventurous
    • Daring
    • Fearless
    • Bold
    • Heroic
    • Courageous
    • Victor
    • Winner
    • Champion
    • Confident

If you play close attention, some if not all the words, God has called us or Himself and remember we are made in His image. But God has not called us to be:

    • Timid
    • Cowardlike
    • Fearful
    • Cautious
    • Afraid

These words are labels no woman in the Made New Mama community should be described as. Keep reading and see how you can avoid these adjectives.

What Does Being Brave Look Like?

Being brave looks like choosing to move forward despite uncertainty or fear. Being brave is going after the things that God has asked you to without hesitation.

Furthermore, being brave is often coupled with another trait that is often attacked which is faith. Having faith is usually t,he prerequisite for being brave. Faith in God your creator, faith in your abilities, and faith in the plan. You can not be authentically brave without God.

What Does God Say About Being Brave?

In the bible, you won’t see many bible verses about bravery, but there will be tons on having courage and being courageous. Which works because a brave woman is just a woman who is courageous repeatedly. You can also find stories of courageous people in the Word…my favorite is the story of Esther.

Here are bible verses on being brave that shows that God desires us to be brave for the kingdom:

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.””
‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭27‬:‭14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

How Can I Train Myself To Be More Brave?

Using these three strategies will help you show up in the world braver and begin to embody the qualities mentioned above.

Embrace God’s Identity For You

For most of us, we don’t know who we truly are. Whether we don’t accept God’s given identity for us or we waste time trying to be someone else that we fail to truly live the identity that was set for us.

God’s identity refers to the scripture where we are reminded that we were created in his image (Genesis 1:27). We are bold, confident, and created with purpose in mind. God has made us his chosen, adopted daughters, and has great victory and rewards for those who accept His son, Jesus Christ.

Most importantly, embracing God’s identity for you will give you a foundation to stand on when the world or circumstances try to tell you who you are. It is in our acceptance of who God created us to be that we can explore and get the answers to our needs regarding our purpose, our higher self, etc.

Embrace God’s Love And Protection

Another key strategy for showing up brave this year is embracing God’s love and protection. With these two generous gifts from God, you can begin to feel like you can take over the world. No army or lethal weapon can compare to the refuge and shield of God’s love and protection.

What I mean by God’s love is accepting that God will adore you and chase after you no matter how many times you mess up or fall short. God’s love reminds us that nothing we do or say or allow to hinder us will ever seperate us from His love.

The other aspect of this strategy is leaning on the protection that God provide for those who trust Him and fear Him. One person I am learning from is David in the Psalms. You could tell that he felt like the world was against him and everything was going wrong for him. Instead of letting the challenges and fears conquer him, he defeats his enemies by resting in God’s love and almighty protection.

Step Out On Faith aka Just Do It!

I’m personally not a big fan of Nike but I get what they are trying to put out into the world. They’ve created a brand around the idea of being brave whether in sports or in fashion.

Faith is a big part of making some of the bravest people brave. They had faith that they could make it through whatever challenge but most importantly they had faith that God would be with them to help them get the victory.

If you have been struggling with being brave in the past, a good place to start is by checking you faith meter. The Word says you have to have as little as a mustard seed (Matthew 17:20). But if you want to become braver and do great things for God, you will have to go from faith to faith. Desire to look for God to say you’re a woman of great faith (Matthew 15:28).
